Taba was located on the Egyptian side of the armistice line agreed to in 1949. During the Suez Crisis in 1956 it was briefly occupied but returned to Egypt when Israel withdrew in 1957. Israel reoccupied the Sinai Peninsula after the Six-Day War in 1967, and subsequently a 400-room hotel was built in Taba. Following the 1973 Yom-Kippur War, when Egypt and Israel were negotiating the exact position of the border in preparation for the 1979 peace treaty, Israel claimed that Taba had been on the Ottoman side of a border agreed between the Ottomans and British Egypt in 1906 and had, therefore, been in error in its two previous agreements. Although most of Sinai was returned to Egypt in 1982, Taba was the last portion to be returned. After a long dispute, the issue was submitted to an international commission composed of one Israeli, one Egyptian, and three outsiders. In 1988, the commission ruled in Egypt's favor, and Israel returned Taba to Egypt in 1989

Places to visit in Taba - See & Do we have kept

It is a wonder to see that this monastery was built in the middle of nowhere.
The church is a typical Orthodox church, so similar to the ones I have seen in Romania & Russia. Do take advantage to go and visit the Icon Museum, the icons are fantastic, some have preserved their colour for 100s of years.

As pools go, you’d do well to better this place. There are actually four here, all lagoon-style numbers that when ‘put together’ make for a whopping expanse. There’s a pool bar, too, should you fancy a quick cold one. Elsewhere, the list of ‘to dos’ is just as impressive, with loads of sports, activities and entertainment for all ages. Inside the bedrooms, meanwhile, there’s a distinctly Arabian theme with bold colours featuring heavily. Nice-to-haves include air-con and satellite TV.

Use only bottled water for drinking and, to be on the safe side, when brushing teeth. When buying bottled water, check the seal of the bottle is intact. Avoid unbottled beverages and ice except in top hotels and restaurants. Milk is unpasteurised and should be boiled. Avoid uncooked vegetables and peeled fruit that may have been washed in tap water.
